Kitchen Pendant Lights

Kitchen pendant lights are a great way to brighten up a kitchen and add a touch of style to the designer chef’s kitchen you’ve always dreamed of.  I know when I’m in the kitchen; I love it nice and bright.  In this guide, I’ll discuss different styles of lighting for your kitchen, where to shop for the best deals, reviews of different lights and what to look for when making this investment for your kitchen.

My favorite lights in the kitchen are mini pendant lights.  Island lights are also very popular in the kitchen, placed directly over a table or breakfast bar.  Some more common lights found in a kitchen are track lighting, pot racks, track lighting, pendant lights and close to ceiling lights.

The most modern kitchens these days typically are finished with steel.  To match that I recommend a brush steel finished pendant light.  This goes so well together and gives it that ultra-modern look that many are looking for.

Start your search for the right kitchen lights online.  Sites like target.com, homedepot.com, kohls.com are great ways to begin this process.  Also make sure to take notice when you’re out at restaurants or at a friend’s house.  Once you’ve figured out the style of kitchen pendant lights you’re looking for, then comes the hard part.

It’s extremely important to take measurements and purchase the right size lights for your kitchen.  One question we often receive is how high should these pendant lights hang from the ceiling?  The general guideline to follow is to make sure the pendant is hanging at least 30” to 40” off the surface.  So if it’s a table, make sure there’s at least 30”+ from the table and the hanging light.

The height will vary between that range depending on your preference.  Make sure to consult with your spouse!  If it’s not the desired height, it’s definitely worth taking the time to correct it.  You’ll see these lights everyday, so just get it right!  If you’re having them installed by an electrician, make sure he knows exactly how high you would like them to hang.

A great way to test if these lights are hanging at the right height is by having the family sit around them.  If it gets in anyone’s way, then you know it’s too high.  Nobody should have to duck or move their head at all.  If this happens, you must change the height!

Some other more important factors to consider when shopping for your kitchen pendant lights are; how much light do you need?  Is it mostly for decoration or is the amount of light crucial?  What will these lights hang over an island or a table?

Hopefully you’ll find the right kitchen pendant lights for your home.  Once this process is complete and the lights are installed, you’re kitchen will have a new feel.  A ways make sure you check the return policy to avoid any issues later on.  Some companies will charge a fee for restocking the item, so please avoid this situation when making your purchase.  Good luck with your new lights!
